Dear Abby,
Perhaps your student was referring to a musical setting of Psalm 146. The
opening text of that psalm is:
"Halleluyah--Hall'li (Hall'lee) Nafshi et-Adoshem."
The setting of this psalm that I am most familiar with and that is sung a
great deal at choral festivals and concerts, as well as on recordings, is by
Salamone Rossi. I hope this helps.
