I really feel for the teacher who was publicly humiliated after teaching a
song. I hope this email "pat on the back" makes you feel a little better. It
comes from a whole bunch of us!
Isn't it a shame that life and Judaism, and for us, Jewish music, has in some
cases become so politically correct that it hurts? I think all of us who write
(and sing) songs encounter this kind of criticism on a regular basis. No?
I vote for leaving in all the stories of the Torah, the haggadah, the megillah,
etc. and then making every effort to field the students' questions in as
responsible a way as possible. And please counter those who protest about
violence in the Bible with this idea: if you don't expose children to these
stories, how can you teach them empathy, the importance of tolerance, peace,
love, righteousness, etc. etc. etc.?
