[HANASHIR:8586] Re: b'nai mitzvah classes

This past month I've started adding trop to the chanting class I teach. The
kids are loving it. I use the Binder method.
I introduce one trop "family" each week. I explain that sometimes the family
isn't together - that sister munach is at choir practice and you only have
mother mercha, father tipchaw and brother etnachta etc. They find it comical
and fun.
Once they know a few families, I add a few "couples" - munach and revia or
the "widow" gershayim. At that point, I give them a copy of the V'Ahavta from
the tikkun and have them color code the "families" in the prayer.
Hopefully this will transfer over to the torah portion. I also use a
blackboard and write sample patterns and have them chant them.
Happy Chanting-
Lori Shapiro
