[HANASHIR:8548] Re: music and meditation

Re: the question on using music and meditation. I work with two techniques.
One is the use of quite long and complex hassidic niggunim as the focus of the
meditation, without direction beyond where repetitive singing of the melody
might take me in the meditation. The second is from Rabbi Shefa Gold's
teachings, using a chant on a short phrase, often from psalms, for a period of
time, and then allowing the chant to open up a focus in the silent meditation
that follows. During silent meditation periods where I am having difficulty
maintaining a focus, I often raise up or continue a chant in silence to bring
back my attention to one thing.

Email me further (privately if you prefer) for more info. and resources for
learning some of these materials.
