Lynn,
Transcontinental Music has a good book and CD set by Cantors Josee Wolff and
Marshall Portnoy which is geared for beginners. Also, the source that most
cantors use is a book by A. W. Binder called "Biblical Chant". This book
goes through Torah, Haftorah, Festivals, High Holiday, and Megillot trope.
It is very thorough. Hazzan Pinchas Spiro also has a book out about Haftarah
trope. You can get the Binder book and the Wolff/Portnoy book from
Transcontinental. The Spiro book you should be able to get from the Cantor's
Assembly. One of the best ways of learning trope, though, is to learn it
from an experienced cantor or Baal Koreh/Korah. They would be able to help
you with the accents and help you to smooth out the trope. Have fun learning
trope!
B'Shirah,
Donna Gordon
