[HANASHIR:8254] kol isha and tolerance

Some quotes from this thread:

"Do you male folk have any idea how humiliating, degrading, repressing,
insulting"

"this mysogynistic decree"

"this embarrassment to the Jewish Religion"

"I believe that the hypocrisy involved ... is obscene. How dare we spit in
the face"

"No amount of scholarly arguments, 2000 years of Halachic whatever ... will
change that for me. This is my bottom line,"

Now, it is my understanding that there are a number of shomer shabbos Jews
on this list that, presumably, think that playing instruments (including,
but not limited to, an electric organ) on Shabbat is a descration of shabbos.

So, here's my question: what would the liberal folks on this list think if
they read the above quotes in relation to playing instruments on Shabbat?
In such a case, we would read:

"Do you Reform folks have any idea how insulting it is to us to play
instruments on Shabbat; this is an embarrassment; the hypocrisy involved is
obscene."

"How dare we spit in the face of 2000 years of tradition by playing
instruments"

"No amount of arguments or discussion will change that for me."

Obviously, the liberal community would label such views as extremely
intolerant. If similar expressions were used in a discussion of homosexual
conduct, they'd be labeled bigoted.

So, what do we call it when those from the liberal community says that
about some of the halacha of the traditional community?

Admittedly, I'm a bit new to the list -- but it _appeared_ as though this
was one of the few lists where members of traditional and liberal
communities co-existed with mutual respect. It sure doesn't seem that way
for this weekend . . .

Sadly,

Eric
