[HANASHIR:8175] Re: Torah reading

Dear Gail,

I know that what you are looking for exists, though that is not why I'm
responding to you....first of all, if you run into a dead end, I'd be happy
to transcribe a Torah portion for you. But, 9 years ago, I didn't know and
aleph from a bet and I barely knew what trope was when, after having been
told by a cantor friend that I could learn both to read Hebrew and do Torah
and Haftarah trope in 6 weeks, I accepted a job as a soloist where I had 6
weeks to "come up with the goods." At the time, I had 3 babies...I studied
at the park, at the gym (they had babysitting -- I studied on the treadmill
and in the locker room.) Of course, I was highly motivated and found the
time to put in a solid 4-5 hours a day, but I learned all of the above in
the 6 weeks. It's really not hard, and I learned it all on my own. There
is a book called Biblical Trope by Binder and the trope is taught well in
that book. For Torah trope only , the Transcon now has a new book that
comes with a CD that is REALLY easy to learn from. As for learning to read
Hebrew, you just get a "Ba, Ba" book and off you go. Anyway, I hope I can
inspire you to take the plunge and learn this much...

Please feel free to contact me if you would like me to transcribe that
portion for you.
