I beg to differ. I think it's off topic _and_ unimportant.
Dershowitz seems to ignore the fact that Christ was also invoked at both of
Clinton's inaugerations (I don't recall him complaining then). In fact,
this has been true of _every_ inaugeration of the last 60 years.
Even the ADL says it's no big deal.
See <http://www.jta.org/story.asp?story=6857> which starts off like this:
====
Jesus at inaugurations: It's the same old, same old
By Michael J. Jordan
NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (JTA) ? For those Jews taken aback by the invocation of
"Jesus the Christ" and "the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit" at
President Bush's inauguration, rest assured: This was nothing new.
According to the Anti-Defamation League ? which has fielded a number of
inquiries since Saturday's inauguration festivities at its New York
headquarters and regional offices ? Jesus has been referred to in each
inauguration of the past 60 years.
"We've heard from members of the community about this, through e-mails and
phone calls, who were disturbed by what they heard," said Abraham Foxman,
national director of the ADL. "But we're not responding because this is not
unusual.

So why is Dershowitz suddenly complaining that it's unconstitutional?
No, instead of "they're baaack" it should be "they're still here". This
country _is_ 90% Christian, no? And all our presidents have been white
male Christians. And the Chaplain to the Congress has always been
Protestant. What's the big surprise here?
There are plenty of things to criticize Bush about, but this isn't one of
them.
