[HANASHIR:7835] Fwd: FW: Purimshpiels

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
In light of the tzedakah nature of this appeal, we hope you won't mind our
sending this out through ACC ...
If you're beginning to wonder what you'd like to do for a Purimspiel this
year,
perhaps we can be of help. As a mitzvah project to raise tzedakah funds for
social justice programs in our area, we are making available six scripts and
scores for your Purim use. With all-new Purim lyrics and a script that
closely
mirrors the original text of the megillah, you may choose from the following:

Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, Aladdin, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Beauty and the
Beast,
and Lion King.
We will provide you with a script, lyric sheets, piano-vocal score, and an
audiotape of the songs, all designed to wow your congregation with JUST TWO
REHEARSALS (no memorizing is required, and cast members work with the
audiotape
to learn their music). No long production schedule is needed, you can invite
your participants to make their own costumes, find a few volunteers to paint
one
backdrop, and you're on your way.
It is important to understand that this Purimspiel does not seek to tell the
Purim story through the prism of the film whose music you are using. The
music
and costumes and scenic backdrop are almost separate from the megillah itself,

because the narration and song lyrics strive to be faithful to the original
biblical text. The music and theme serve only as a creative hook on which to
hang (so to speak) the original story of Purim. Your community will enjoy
listening to the new words of old (and not-so-old) songs.
All we ask are two things: 1) that each congregation make a tzedakah
donation
of $150 to "Woodlands Community Temple;" and, 2) that you have a great time
with your presentation.
For a cassette sampler or to sign on for this tzedakah project, please contact

us. Thanks for reading this. And Chag Purim sameach!
