Hello All!
I have been hired by a local public school to be part of a 'Middle Eastern'
evening program (each year they pick a different part of the world) in
February. My job is to teach Israeli songs to a group which includes
children grades K-5 and their parents. The cultural/ethnic mix of the group
includes Asian, Jewish, Chaldean, Afro-American, Indian.....
I will have about 15-20 minutes. I started a brainstorm list, and would like
opinions about what might work really well, what wouldn't work at all, etc.
Also, if anyone has any suggestions for movement/dance, that would be really
helpful, too.
I prefer to stick to children's folk songs and songs about peace/harmony, and
stay away from anything nationalistic. Of course, the songs should be simple
to learn and engaging.
All comments & suggestions will be really appreciated. Here's what I've been
thinking about so far (will use 5-6 songs)....
Hiney Matov (any version)
Od Yavo
Lo Yisa Goi
Hevenu Shalom Aleichem
Achshav (I know, it's about Israel, but fun to do.....)
Kum Bachur Atzeil
Ufaratzta (too many words??)
Zum Gali
Atzei Zetim Omdim (teach a little about Tu B'Shevat!!)
Shalom Chaverim
Todah rabah, you wonderful people!
