[HANASHIR:7703] RE: How hard do you work?

You are not permitted to deal with business on Shabbos period. But of course
there is wiggle room. If you are a lay leader, and you have a different job
in real life, and the insitution where you serve is not your occupation, and
you don't expect your executive director to take notes but you do expect him
or her to remember what you told them on Monday morning...you can make a case
to talk some business on Shabbos. But...if we're talking about the
professional who works for the institution, then there is lots less wiggle
room. There are 39 different types of "work" that we are not supposed to do
on Shabbos. These various kinds of "labors" are the different types of work
that were done in the building of the Mishkan. We know the Mishkan was so
special because the Sechinah maintained a presence there and the Mishkan was
the forerunner for the future Bais HaMikdash. But we learn the importance of
Shabbos when Hashem tells us as Friday night rolls around to stop building
the Mishkan. Today we are all responsible for "rebuilding" the Third and
final Bait HaMikdash. One of the ways we do this is through involvement and
commitment to Jewish instutional life. Maybe we can use this cesation from
the "physical" building on Shabbat as a lesson for our leadership to
illustrate the importance of what they do and their role in "maintaining the
Mishkan" of today. We can also teach them by using Shabbat as time to focus
on the "spiritual building" just like the Dor HaMidbar did, we will
certainly move toward the succeses we desire with Hashems Bracha. Shabbat
Shalom
