Heck that's just for starters. There are trope variations known as Warsaw
trope, Amsterdam trope, as well as unique systems of Yemenite, Bagdad, Cairo,
and Morroccan trope. They all have a general similarity but there are
differences in each. So when you look at,for example, a riviah, there is
almost always a four note descending pattern but there are stil variations in
the starting note, ending note, or in the intervals between the notes.
The Baltimore trope you mention is a variation by Abba Weisgal that he used
at the old Chizzuk Amuno. He also wrote a lot of unique nusach. They are an
alternative to the notated Katchko or Alter texts that HUC and JTS use today
as a basis for teaching nusach to cantors. Cantor Joe Levine, the author of
"Synagogue Song in America" has notated a lot of Weisgal's stuff includuing
(I think) the trope system you mention.
Ok.
I've rambled long enough.
Thanks to Steve Dropkin and Carol Boyd Leon for answering my Bayom Hahu
request.
Love this list!
