I do not have use of an overhead or board, but use chart paper, white butcher
block paper, and write the lyric in large lettering for all to see. I have
combined age groups in my religious school classes, but don't use charts for
under second grade unless they are combined with first. I then will often
have a teenage assistant go up to the chart and point to the line we're on.
Many of the kids read very well, even in first grade, and want to read the
lyrics. The others learn by rote, and often just sing on the refrain. I teach
in a reform temple and use transliteration.
