As a young songleader not to far away from her own Sunday School experience,
I will answer the last question by saying that it does not have to be dark in
a room to use an overhead. The best way I've found to teach kids and the way
I remember learning best from is the repeat method. Take the song and divide
it into lines. If they are in 4th grade or below give them 2-4 words at a
time and then put lines together then groups of lines together and THEN the
whole song. It also helps if you give them the meanings of KEY words like
olam, shalom, etc. because it jogs their memory and gives them words to
identify certain parts of the songs. If they're older than 5th grade, give
them a line at a time. It works as long as the words are not exceedingly
huge. If they are, you should single out those words and break them down
into syllables. Like shechechezarta in Modeh Ani. She-che-che-zar-ta. Hope
this helps! Good luck!
