Can you recommend the brand you bought? I have a stereo tape recorder that 
works pretty well. I can't remember the cost, but it was somewhere between 40 
and 80 dollars.  It is by Radio Shack, which normally I have some 
reservations about, but this recorder has been good for me so far. There is 
sometimes white noise, but that can usually be eliminated by playing the tape 
on a machine that has a dolby control button.
