I am sorry that I didn't proof the email sufficiently before sending it.
Yes, the date is Wednesday, Nov. 1st. Yes, the time on the East
Coast is 11am (we change to standard time this weekend -- "fall
back one hour -- there will be 7 hours difference between NY time
and Israel.

Thank you to the many people who wrote to correct me.

Warmly, Rabbi Packouz

The original message (fixed up):

Uniting Jews for Peace: What you Can do November 1

Israel is once again on the brink of war and Jewish people the
world over are starting to experience terrorism in their own nations,
as witnessed by synagogue burnings in Syracuse, NY & France
and the stabbing of a Jewish teenager on a London bus, to
mention only a few of many recent events.

It no longer matters whether you were for or against Oslo because
when the guns are firing on Gilo, the bullets do not distinguish
between left and right. We are one in the eyes of the Arabs, who
seek to make Jerusalem their capital through stones, molotov
cocktails, and machine gun fire; just as we were one to Hitler, even
if it meant going back 8 generations to find a Jewish relative in
one's lineage.

If the world at large is delivering us a message - that we are one -
perhaps it is time for us to stand up and take notice of what we are
being told. Because, deep down, we all know one thing. When we
are united, when we act as one - be it in 1948 to create the state of
Israel, and again in 1967 and 1973 when Israel's very existence
was in doubt - we witness miraculous, momentous events. And,
time and again, the Jewish people have been saved.

This is why I, and many others, are calling on every Jew, and on our
many friends, to unite at the same moment to make a difference.
On Wednesday, November 1 at 6:00 pm Israel time (see below for
your corresponding local time), the first day of the Jewish month of
Cheshvan, Stop, Stand Still and Unite with your fellow Jews in the
following prayer:

Dear God, bring us back from the brink of war and bless us with
peace, wisdom and healing. Guide us together in love and
harmony to our destiny. May we find only favor in each other and
witness the hopeful vision of swords beaten into plowshares, each
under his vine and fig tree, unafraid, soon in our days.

Just Imagine...

For one minute Jews of all backgrounds, nationalities and
affiliations will be united, overlooking the differences that so
blindly
divide us, to share the love and heritage that bind us together for
3000 years.

For one minute, our voices will be joined together in the same
thought, united in the same concern of love for Israel, our fellow
Jewsand world peace.

For one minute, all our spiritual, emotional and physical resources
will be united together in the quest for a true and lasting peace.

Just as the Jews of Israel stand together for moments of silence
and respect each spring in honor of the 6 million and our fallen
soldiers, let us all join together to take a stand for our future.

Calculate your local time to coincide with Israel at 6:00 p.m., which
will be 11:00 am eastern standard time (New York), 10:00 am
central time(Chicago) and 8:00 am pacific coast time (Los
Angeles), 5:00 pm in Paris, 4:00 pm in London, and 2:00 pm in
Sao Paulo.

Please distribute the following as widely as possible through e-
mail. Print it out and post it in your workplaces, schools,
synagogues, temples and local coffee shops. Please translate it
into your language and distribute to your network of family, friends
and colleagues. Use this text to run an advertisement in your local
paper if you can. And remember to set your watches, alarms, and
palm pilots to your equivalent of 6:00 pm Israel time on
November 1.

Please let Mimi Baron Jankovits, the progenitor of this idea, know
your plans and experiences November 1, which I will compile and
distribute. You can reach her at unitingjews (at) aol(dot)com .

Warmly,
Rabbi Packouz
