I always include songs in my show that I say "are not Jewish, but not not
Jewish." For instance, "The Hammer Song" by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays,
embodies just about every value that I've learned as a Jew...Justice,
Freedom, Love, etc. So if your songs don't have to be necessarily Jewish in
origin, here is a partial list... (pardon my spelling of names)...
Blowin' In The Wind...Bob Dylan
Circle Chant...Linda Hirschhorn
Doing My Job...John McCutcheon
Lo Yisa Goy
Down By The Riverside
Light One Candle...Peter Yarrow
Don't Laugh at Me...Peter Yarrow
No Easy Walk to Freedom...Peter Yarrow
Man Come Into Egypt...Fred Hellerman
Sing Mandela Free...Charlie King
Somos El Barco...Lorre Wyatt
This Land Is Your Land (all the verses)...Woody Guthrie
Wade In The Water...
Woke Up This Morning With My Mind On Freedom...African American Spirituals
Weave Me the Sunshine...Peter Yarrow
Peace Is...Fred Small
Everything Possible...Fred Small
This Little Light...Trad.
We Shall Overcome...Trad. African American Spiritual (adapted by Pete Seeger
among many others)
Check out the catalogues of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie
Find the book "Rise Up Singing" edited by Peter Blood and Annie Patterson
Hope this helps.
