Cantor Contzius is correct....and it is praiseworthy if you can always sing
prayers and other hebrew songs with all the accents in the correct places...I
know many cantors and others who are sticklers about this..... however, bear
in mind that not all composers had the same priority, and therefore you can
sometimes go crazy trying to say all the words with the right accents without
changing the melody. My favorite example is the song Dayenu - try singing
"Ilu naTAN, naTAN LAnu, naTAN LAnu et hatoRAH, naTAN LAnu et hatoRAH,
daYEnu"..... it just doesn't work.
my opinion, sing the kiddush the way everyone already knows it... for NEW
prayers you introduce you can be more picky.
