[HANASHIR:7113] Re: Sing Along Song---other verses?

even though the "Sing Along Song" gets my vote for "Most
Annoying/Catchy/Yeah-but-it's-still-REALLY-annoying Religious School
Song ever Conceived," it's still really good for not only teaching,
but getting kids creative. I had many kids in my first student pulpit
write their own verses to this song. Here's the result (I had to
write the ones for shavuot & lag b'omer, and i think you can tell
why)...

Sing along Song (Additional High Holiday verses)
Rosh Hashana's here today
The New Years Holiday
Fifty seven sixty _____
A happy year we pray
        Everybody now...

Yom Kippur's a day we fast
A day we eat no food
So we remember to repent
(But we're not in a great mood)
        Everybody now...

Sing Along Song (Sukkot)
Sukkot is the harvest time
A time of fruit and grain
We give thanks for the past year's crops
And pray for next year's rain.
        Everybody now...

Sukkot is a festival
The first one of the year
We celebrate the things we feel
And touch and taste and hear.
        Everybody now...

We dwell in booths the whole week long
So beautiful are they
Hung with fruits and vegetables
In every kind of way.
        Everybody now...

Eight days from now come back again
For Simhat Torah joys
We'll consecrate the newest of
Our temple's girls and boys.
        Everybody now...

Simhat Torah is the day that we
Roll the Torah back
From the ending to the start
And that's the fact, Jack!
        Everybody now...
-from students at Sinai Reform Temple, Bayshore, NY

Sing Along Song (Hanukkah Verses)
Hanukkah's also called
"The Festival of Lights"
We sing songs and eat latkes
For seven days and nights.

On Hanukkah we celebrate
The Festival of Lights
4 Candles lit on every side
The Shamash burns so bright

On Hanukkah we play a game
And 'dreidl' is its name
There's Nun and Gimel, Hey and Shin
It's in the Hall of Fame.

Sing Along Song (Tu B'shvat)
Tu B'shvat is the day
We appreciate our trees
We love them 'cause they supply
The oxygen in the breeze
        Everybody now...

Sing Along Song (Purim verses)
Purim is a lot of fun
We get to make some noise
There's Haman, Mordechai & Esther-
She has lots of poise!
        Everybody now...

On Purim we scream and shout
When Haman's name is said
It's Hamentaschen that we eat
When we want to be fed.
        Everybody now...

On Purim we celebrate
The day the Jews were saved
And eating hamentaschen, Mmm
Apricot's my fave.
        Everybody now...

Grogger, feet and lots of noise
To blot out Haman's name
As we tell the story of
Haman's ugly game.
        Everybody now...

Megillah is a single scroll
With Esther's story told
We hear the tale of Haman's plot
And how he's put on "hold."
        Everybody now...

And two guards were overheard
"Assassinate the King."
Mordechai would save the day
And everyone would sing
        "Ting-a-ling-ling"

Mordechai and all the Jews
Were saved by Esther's plan
By beating Haman to the punch
She stopped that evil man.
        Everybody now...

Vashti was Shushan's queen
Happy was the king
But then she went into exile
And Esther took over things.
        Everybody now...
-words: Sinai Reform Temple, Bay Shore, NY

Sing Along Song (Pesah verses)
Pesah is the festival
When Egypt we did leave
When Pharaoh chased us all the way,
Oh man, was he peeved.
        Everybody now...
-words: Sinai Reform Temple, Bay Shore, NY

Sing Along Song (Shavuot verses)
Lag B'Omer is simply
The 33rd day of the Omer
It's in the middle of a period of mourning
Between Passover and Shavuot.
        OK, so it doesn't rhyme...

Shavuot is the time the Torah
Was given to Moses, the best one.
Now how many of you can remember that part
In the movie with Charlton Heston?
        "Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera..."
        (With mild apologies to Yul)
