Rachelle:
I will be happy to suggest some ideas, but I would first have
to know the following:
1. How big is the choir?
2. How many rows are involved?
3. Are risers used? (I am assuming that the choir sits when
not singing.)
4. Where is the accompanying instrument in relation to the
choir? If electronic, where are the speakers placed? (The second part
only applies if you are not using a piano.)
5. What is the place in which the choir performs in relation
to the general setup of the sanctuary? (Behind or above the bima? On
one side or the other off the bima? When they sing which way does the
sound travel in a straight line?
6. Is any type of reflecting shell or reflecting panels in
use in order to focus the choir's sound?
7. Since you have an opportunity to submit a proposal, what
is the principal reason why the choir needs to be amplified?
8. Since I do not know what city you live in, are there any
companies which deal in acoustics or sound environments in your city
or region?
After you can answer these questions (which any professional
would ask you anyway if they were not available to see the sanctuary
in person), I will be able to suggest some options.
