[HANASHIR:6952] Re: Women's Rosh Chodesh

I recently joined a group that's been in existence for a few years. The
format is a shacharit or maariv service, followed by programming, usually
study (sometimes with focus on women's perspectives, sometimes not). Up
until now, services and programming were led by lay volunteers. A couple of
months ago I did songleading at a service that was led by one of the lay
leaders. I chose song/prayers that I was comfortable with for the service,
and taught new songs after the service (that was the programming for that
session). The response was very positive; the selections were a fresh
departure for most of the participants (thank you HN!!).

I like this simple format. I love to daven in a meaningful and inclusive
environment. It works for me, and the other women like it, too.

Starting last month, a new Rabbi in town, fresh from UJ - LA, took over the
leadership role. For now, the format will continue. I will be working with
her to plan songleading when the Rosh Chodesh sessions don't conflict with my
Sunday morning religious school gigs. All in all, the davening / study (or
singing!) format is wonderful. Wouldn't trade it! Keep it simple - and
enjoy!
