[HANASHIR:6907] Titles, titles, titles

Hi everyone,

Someone asked me about my title and I had to 'fess up that it is of the
honorary and voluntary variety as opposed to the compensatory type. If
you're the only one around willing and able to do music----you often can get
a cool title instead of a paycheck (I'm not complaining yet----I'm getting
great experience which I can turn into a paycheck, hopefully long before I
start complaining----but if I do YOU'LL KNOW IT---sorry.)

Anyway---I've heard all kinds of titles for musical types handling all sorts
of responsibilites at congregations and in the community----and I think I
know what they mean. But I could be wrong. (except for cantor---which is
very specific in my mind, in that it means you have been invested by some
authority such as the ACC or Cantors Assembly). So .... what do you mean
when you say:

JOB TITLES FOR PEOPLE IN JEWISH MUSIC
Cantor
Chazzan
Music Director
Music Specialist
Song Leader
Jewish Music Performer
Lay Cantor
Cantorial Soloist
Choir Director (pretty clear, one would think)
Youth Choir Director
(I'm tired and I can't think of them all---help me out here please.)

Consider: Responsibilities, experience you would expect from someone in this
position, Judaic knowledge, musical knowledge/ability, administrative
skills, age range for the average "x", sense of humor required, etc.
