[HANASHIR:6895] Re: reviews

I have to disagree with the Rabbi -- recorded music is not "wasted" if there
is no accompanying sheet music. Not every piece of recorded music is
something you or your cantor/solist might want to perform or add to a
service. Sometimes a recording serves it's purpose as something to listen to
-- something to provide pleasure, inspiration, education, etc., for the
listener. You may be able to use certain recordings in a classroom. Even
though I am a musician, sometimes I prefer to play other's recordings in the
classroom to maintain the artist's arrangement, emotion, etc. There may be
pieces that you want to learn and add to your repertoire after careful
consideration (there is SO much music out there), and it may be frustrating
if there is no sheet music (I think we've had the sheet music discussion
before on this list), BUT I hardly think that someone's effort -- their
writing, arranging, recording, and all that goes into it -- is wasted! Please
consider the words you use -- as a songwriter, I am always considering words
-- they have a powerful effect.

And thanks to Judy who is taking her own time to, among other things, bring
new recordings to our attention. She's a singer/songwriter/recording artist
herself and sometimes I think she does more to help our careers than her own!
What a mensch.

L'shana Tova. And in this season of introspection, think about -- the power
of words.
