Dear Folks,
Sorry to be so long in responding to Noah Budin's request, but I had to track
this information down.
There is a song called "Courage" by Bob Blue that deals with a 12 year old
girl's realization that she needs to have the courage to not tease peers, but
rather to help them, just as some had courage during the Holocaust - a lesson
she had just learned in class. It is an amazing song that I had heard at a
conference on Special Education inclusion last fall. At the time I noted it
would be equally valuable in a religious school class lesson. (Then, after
Noah's request, I just had to find the notes!)
I was told that Bob Blue has it on an audio and video tape, but I have not
been able to find him listed on Amazon or CDNow. I also know the music and
words are in a book by Professor Mara Sapon-Shevin titled "Because We Can
Change the World" which IS available at Amazon (and has terrific reviews as a
book providing practical skills for building community in a classroom).
If anyone goes out to find it, let me know what you think. I remember tears
running down my face as I heard it at the conference.
B'shalom,
Iris
