[HANASHIR:6685] Re: Day School Music Curriculum



When I taught at private schools back in the early 90's including an Orthodox 
day school, I incorporated the National Standards for Music (PreK-12) 
developed and published by MENC: The National Association for Music 
Educators.  They also have published related books on benchmarks and 
assessment strategies to help students succeed.  Those are now the guide for 
music education.  There are also Standards for Visual Arts, Theater and Dance 
for PreK-12. You can also check with your State's Dept. of Education for 
Standards materials.  Ohio has the Arts Education Competency Based Standards 
that districts have to start with before writing courses of study.  Jewish 
music can quite nicely fit in to the Standards since the teachers choose the
