Debbie, et al unicorn fans... I know, you've had enough, but...
Sorry - in my haste last week I forgot to include the link to the site where
the Irish Rover Recording is...
Try this link and click on the music notes next to the Unicorn Song:
http://cdu3.cduniverse.com/asp/albuminfo.asp?style=audio&afl=&LC=7674+11958&
cart=95744917&qs=
And any of you that have read this far and can help out - please change the
subject to "Return Again" -
Has anyone worked out the chords to that yet? I am fine with the 1st
section, but when I get to the "Return to What you are, Return to Who you
are, Return to Where you are, Born and Reborn...", I'm having trouble with
the "Born and Reborn" section. Any help would be appreciated. I'm
currently playing Am/Em for the first section, then Am/Dm for the second
section until "Born and Reborn" where I'm lost... I've ordered the Carlebach
Anthology, if it's in there, but haven't received it yet, so...
ALSO, The Hinei Ma Tov we learned at HN (That if you go to tara.com is
recorded on the B'nai Jeshurun CD...the "Singing Shul" that there was a
discussion about in NYC...ok - here's the URL:
http://www.tara.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/sabnj10d.htm?L+taracom+wpni9110+963
296807) - Chords anyone? I haven't started figuring it out yet, but I'd
love to use it at services next week ... Who is it written by? Is there
music available for it somewhere? Technically there aren't chords being
played with the CD version per se, but I remember the guitar with it at
HN...
I'm with the others that have posted on having some sort of structure to the
HN experience to make it more productive AFTER we get home - I'm finding
that trying to find music on the tapes and then figure out the chords or try
to figure out who wrote it and who's book it's in, etc., is VERY cumbersome.
I'd be willing to help out next year in putting together some sort of
packages of music, if possible, for different services/song sessions - or at
least a listing of the music, composers and where the music is available,
whether it's a lead sheet or a keyboard transcription, etc. When I think of
the time this would save me on the return, I'd certainly be willing to pay
extra for a specific set of music available to participants.
As per the discussion on Certification - I'm overwhelmed. I've finally
gotten a chance to read through most of the e-mails on the subject (While
waiting for a LONG NT Server Patch to download tonight - one of the
highlights of being the LAN Administrator...) and I'd like to throw a few
cents into the pot on this one. For someone completely new to this scene -
Judaism, Hebrew, Jewish Music, Song Leading, etc - I can say that I would
LOVE to have access to some sort of classes to help me learn more music and
help me with singing and chanting in Hebrew and more about service structure
and prayer, etc. However, I think that a lot of us out here are NOT
professional musicians and have been thrust into positions of song leading
and doing music for Hebrew School and an occasional service or 2 when the
Cantor is away, etc, because there isn't anyone else around that is
available to do these things. Yes, we enjoy it and volunteer to help
because we love it, but it is different than pursuing some sort of
"sub-Cantor" track, which this certification stuff seems like to me. On
one hand I would love to have some sort of program to attend to hone my
non-professional skills into something, on the other hand, this is something
I do to help out my Temple and my community - and something they've come to
me and asked me to do. If the goal of certification is to help people learn
to be better at their skills, then that's great. If it is to keep
"non-professionals" out, which in MANY cases setting up a certification
process is, then I think it is a horrible idea.
