To Ellen and all those doing z'mirot after a service - you must purchase
"The Z'mirot and Kumsitz Songbook" published by Tara. Vel was practically
giving these away at a caje about 2-3 years ago. It is invaluable for
teaching, songleading, etc. It has a nice mix of traditional and newer
songs; but everything is wonderful for shabbat. Some highlights include:
Ma Y'didut, Ya Ribon, M'nucha V'Simcha (kids love this), Samchenu, Eytz
Chaim Hi, Ki Mitsiyon, Uva u Ha'ovdim, Yism'chu Hashamayim, V'ha-er Enenu.
I know there are lots of new melodies to all of these, but let's not forget
our wonderful, traditional ones as well. Most people have heard many of
these tunes in their youth, and I've always been so pleasantly surprised at
the number of people who come up to me afterwards and say, "I remember that
one from my childhood." It's wonderful to keep them alive.
