[HANASHIR:6236] Re: Sound-editing software

Hi There Michael,
Here are a few suggestions of some various software suites that are
good for editing and then mastering to CD-R: They range in price from $~100
to as much as $600 (or more with something like Pro-Tools). Enjoy

    1) Cubase VST and WaveLab (by Steinberg) Cubase is an actual multitrack
recording and editing program that I use for not only recording, but for
mixing as well. I find that it is useful for dealing with ordering of an
entire album, adding effects, and digital splicing between different takes of
a song. If you only need to work on two track stereo, then WaveLab is the
program produced by Steinberg for that. You can buy a separate plug-in that
will reduce analog hiss and clean up scratches normally associated with
analog badness.

    2) Sound Forge (Sonic Foundry) a 2 track editing program that may be
more intuitive than WaveLab or Cubase. Same options (slightly less
expensive, a more consumer rather than commercial program, but good
nonetheless.)

    3) Cakewalk: These guys make it all. They have a program built for you
whether
you are looking for an audio sequencer, a 2 track mastering suite, a midi
sequencer....etc. Prices vary by the product as does the quality of finished
product.

Now, with any software based program/system, you are going to need a
sound card to convert the analog recordings to the digital realm. I use a
Korg 1212 I/O card which works well for ME because I record on 8 track ADAT.
There are less expensive stereo cards available if all you want to do is
convert your analog 2track stuff to digital. I have no good suggestions for
a 2 channel card but if you are looking for a multichannel card, fell free to
e-mail me and I will be more than happy to give you my impressions as well as
those of my close friend who works in the computer recording industry.

     B'hatzlacha,
       Amichai
