Hi, everyone! Thanks so much for the moving experience this year. It felt
like a mystical experience for me this time round. I kept thinking about
Heschel's description of Shabbat as a "castle in time". HN felt like a
castle in time, too. Thanks to everyone for the dancing, singing,
conversations, jokes, jam sessions, etc.
I'm also interested in getting the chords and lyrics to the songs, but I"m
more interested in the stuff from open mike, all of your stuff that was so
inspiring, interesting, touching, etc. I'd love it if people would take
the time to type out your lyrics (and chords) for your original stuff and
let us know if we have permission to sing it. In case I need to sell you
on that, remember that if your HN buddies sing your stuff, audiences aroudn
the world might become familiar with your material and then look for your
CDs in the Jewish stores, on-line catalogs, etc. And in case you felt that
your song wasn't as good or significant as someone elses---you're mistaken.
All of the material presented was amazing and touched us in a myriad of
ways. Thanks to all of you who performed!
On a more technical note, as I'm listening to the cds and tapes, I'm
noticing a significant amount of mispronounced Hebrew. Please, if you are
writing/singing in Hebrew, keep doing it, and keep checking the
authenticity of the words. People who understand Hebrew will take you more
seriously if your Hebrew is accurate, and if you're singing/praying in
Hebrew, it makes sense to say the correct words regardless of what other
people might hear. If you need resources for Hebrew, put it out here on
the HN list or check out resources in your community. You'll get
assistance, I'm sure.
Finally, a poem I composed on the way home from HN, inspired (once again)
by Rick Lupert.
To be read in Rick's style poetry reading.
I flew home from Hava Nashira today,
Blasting the music of my talented friends.
But this was no American Airlines flight.
I arrived home on time and with all of my luggage.
It must have helped
That I drove home.
Thanks again to everyone! Take care!
B'shalom,
