[HANASHIR:5918] Re: Ancient music bank?

>We have in our congregation an elderly man from Egypt who can beautifully
sing hundreds of ancient prayer melodies and trope. A congregant has
suggested a recording project to document these dying melodies. She is
wondering if a Jewish music bank or project to preserve such melodies from
dwindling Jewish communities already exists.

Dear Rachelle: Bet HaTefutsot (at Ramat Aviv) has the most important Jewish
sound archive in the world for this material. They collect actively. Please
contact them. I haven't their website details handy. If you don't know
them, I am sure someone does and will reply to your message. Otherwise I
will send them to you. Victor Tunkel
