[HANASHIR:5862] Re: Shoah/Holocaust music

A few years ago in one of my Melton classes, someone asked our teacher,
Rabbi Morey Schwartz, how future generations might remember Shoah. After
thinking some moments, he replied - in true Jewish fashion - with
questions: "What is it that we remember about Egypt? Do we dwell on the
suffering we endured in slavery, or do we celebrate our deliverance? Have
you ever tried to remember intense pain?"

There are two kinds of memories. There is the memory which comes without
being summoned, and there is remembering, which involves a conscious
recalling. Mainstream Jewish thought holds that there are times to
remember; Tisha B'av, and now, Yom Hashoah, are times to remember the
suffering Amalek brought to us.

Wounds, baruch Hashem, heal; the pain recedes, and what we learn from being
wounded hopefully stays with us. Let's remember to thank God that Amalek
has yet to succeed in his final solution.

Moadim l'simcha,
Andy

>To the list: Re: Holocaust music: Following is an extra verse/chorus to
the tune of my Passover song which on Celebrate Passover (you can hear the
song on www.celebrateseries.com) that deals with the holocaust. I will
include the words here:
>
>Tell the story to your children
>Six million were stolen away
>We remember this hole in the heart of our people
>Every moment of every day
>Every moment of every day.
>We arise, it is dawn
>And with fire in our souls we go on
>Learn the stories, learn them well
>History repeats itself
>And our children we must tell...
>
