[HANASHIR:5786] RE: Plane Travel With a Guitar

Unfortunately, I discovered there's nothing assured about gate-checking.
When I wasn't allowed to bring my guitar on board the return flight from
CAJE last summer because I was told the overhead compartments were already
full, I insisted on gate-checking and was told the guitar would be
hand-carried to me at my destination. I made sure I was the first off the
plane at Dulles so I could remind the folks at the gate they needed to bring
me my guitar. But they said they weren't allowed to bring it up to me and
would instead bring it to a special room near the luggage carousel. I
dashed to that room and, needless to say, it wasn't there either. I finally
found it -- going round and round in circles on the luggage carousel.
Fortunately, the only damage were a few dings to the case, but I sure was
upset... -- Carol
