[HANASHIR:5634] Re: Shabbat service songs

I typically do one or two opening songs specific to Shabbat at my normal
congregation but I once substituted at a huge congregation (hundreds of people
were in attendance) on Erev Shabbat and they do atleast 10 minutes of singing
prior to beginning the service. They start off with a niggun and then go from
one upbeat song to another, some with reference to Shabbat and others with no
particular relationship to Shabbat, just high energy songs like Am Yisrael
Chai, Al Shlosha, Lo Yisa Goy, etc. People were robustly clapping and singing
along, I thought the roof would come off. There were several Rabbis who were
strolling through the aisles welcoming people, shaking hands, etc.
