Chordster:
A note to anyone involved in the supplying of materials to Hava
Nashira attendees this year: having received 2 copies of Shireinu at
recent Hava Nashirim, I'm hoping this year, we'll be offered the
Shireinu Chordster instead, or at least a choice between the two.
Niggunim:
I'm in love with the Rabbis of old's concept of why we sing niggunim,
melodies without words. We all come to pray from different places
with different things going on in our heads...we come with our own
unique melody. We sing the niggun together to, in a way, clear our
heads of all of these things, and intertwine our existing personal
melodies into one, so we can move forward and pray together in a
focused manner. That, according to them, was the purpose of the
niggun, to be the melody around which we wrap our own individual
melodies. Stories told to us by Danny Maseng at last years Hava
Nashira) tell us that some Rabbis would not begin the service until
the niggun was being sung exactly right by everyone, no matter how
long it took. (I'm paraphrasing) So, from this perspective, it
seems that the niggun is a crucial element of prayer and not
necessarily a text-free free for all.
Van to Hava Nashira:
As some time has passed since my original invitation and more folks
have probably considered travel arrangements to Oconomowoc, I'd like
to reiterate my invitation to reserve a space on either the van to
Oconomowoc from the airport, or the return trip at the end of Hava
Nashira. The times are as follows:
Wednesday May 31 around 4:15pm to OSRUI
Leaving OSRUI for the aiport on Sunday June 4 at 11am
Wednesday Shalom
