[HANASHIR:5599] Re: wrestling

Chevre - I don't remember all of Howard Gardner's 7 (I think he's increased it
to 8) modes/styles/preferences of learning, but surely he has something to
teach us. I know from many years teaching that people are truly reached many
ways. Let me give it a try with the music we present as prayer leaders:

Linguistic - Hebrew becomes a strong pleasure and avenue here, I would think
(at least I know it is an access point for me)
Mathematic/Spatial - the precision of what we do, possibly even chord
progressions? what about "seeing" the music
Physicial - the movement in response to the music, clapping, stomping, swinging
Social/Relational/Interpersonal - being with others, observing how others are
reached? I know for me the connection of sacred song over the generations,
knowing that I stand in an historical, sacred tradition brings me to a holy
place
Internal/Personal - where music illuminates a personal issue/struggle/pleasure
- unobservable

I don't remember the other two off hand and I think his 8th (which came out in
a later book) had to do with environment/ecology/awareness of our world and
place in it.

Regardless, I think it would worth a discussion and I would be willing to do
some extra work to find out more information. I must admit that I haven't
thought this out with my own music like I have with the material I present in
classes (especially the year I taught 7th graders in Hebrew school!! - because
I tried everything!!! to reach those kids and sometimes it worked).

Anybody up for it? Anybody done work in this direction?

Thanks for listening. Have a great Wednesday. More later maybe.
