[HANASHIR:5517] children's music article

Dear Hanashir-ites:

So many Jewish parents have no idea how to find or choose Jewish recordings for
their children.
For this reason I am planning a newspaper article on the subject of Jewish
music for children. This article will be for parents who would like to bring
Jewish feeling into their homes.

I would like to include a list of recordings and how to find them. If you
have recordings for children and would like to be included in this article,
which I will be writing in the spring, would you kindly send me information. A
questionnaire is included in this message to assist you. If you have several
Jewish recordings, please send me the names and short description of each. In
this article I will only consider recordings which have all or mostly Jewish
content. As a Jewish music specialist and parent I have heard of/used material
from a number of artists, but surely have missed some. If you are not well
known in Canada, please include as much info as possible.

Name of recording:

Name of artist:

Age suitability:

Is it geared toward a particular holiday?

Please describe the recording in a short paragraph or in point form including
the following information:

1) original songs, traditional songs, or songs of other songwriters, or a mix

2) for quiet or lively times or both

3) ratio of Jewish to secular songs, if this applies; added instrumentation and
vocals or just guitar/piano and voice; if there is a lyric sheet included

4) Is there a companion song book?

5) How can it be ordered? i.e. name and address of distribution/publishing
company, name and address of your own company, if it is available in children's
books stores or Jewish stores in Canada, web-site info, if appropriate.

6) A bit about yourself.

If you are an independent artist I may not have heard, you may choose to send
me a copy of a tape/CD so that I can give it a personal recommendation. (This
is not required.) I will start compiling in mid-April.

Thanks,

Rachelle Shubert
