[HANASHIR:5486] Music for Psalm 92

Rachelle asked for a singable, congregational "Mizmor Shir L'Yom HaShabbat"
for an informal service. I have a great suggestion, which I only discovered
just recently. My congregation loves it and took to it right away.

It is found in the book "The Music of Rabbi Michel Twerski" - Vol. 1 -
published by Tara. Although the book is geared for a certain "audience,"
this particular composition is very accessible and usable in a wide range of
settings. Look for the title "Tov L'Hodos." What I did was change the
Ashkenazic pronunciation and accentuation to Sephardic. (E-mail me privately
if you want more info), changed "HaShem" so it became usuable as a prayer,
not just a song, and sang the refrain very metrically. I also repeated the
refrain extra times before I sang the first verse. By the first repetition
they were all singing along. I also added one more verse of text "Alei Asur
V'Alei Navel..." which was not set, but which fits well. This way the
congregation has added opportunities to join in the refrain. It is upbeat
and contagious - guaranteed to work!
