[HANASHIR:4983] Re: Michael Isaacson's ``L'maaseih V'reicheet

Adrian,

I am one of the CO-commissioning Cantors who will perform L'maaseih
V'reisheet this weekend. I am sure that my Congregants wouldn't have given a
second thought to doing the service, CD and all, on Friday night. Problem is
I would not permit that to happen. I will not officiate with instrumentation
on Shabbat or Yom Tov. since I still wanted to use the music (it's great
stuff), we are performing a liturgical concert on Saturday evening. I have
arranged for a professional sound system, a videographer and all the
trimmings of a concert. Practically, I think the score is too much for the
average junior choir. Remember the music was composed for Hazzan and unison
youth choir. Their are 24 pieces in total, way too much, in my opinion, for a
youth choir. Especially mine. So by doing the concert on Saturday evening, I
have the opportunity to edit out a few pieces. We have added Havdalah and
readings for Tu B'shevat as well. The children have been practicing for 3
months and are very excited about the performance. I even had them do four
songs at a New Year's program for the residents of the Jewish Senior Life
Center.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Alan
