Chaverim:
Several Items for Your Attention
1. After much consideration, I have decided to utilize some features of the
List Processor software that will help with manageability of message
traffic, and hopefully encourage us all to think before hitting that "send"
button.
I have set a limit on the following:
* a maximum number of list messages per day limit
* the number of individual posts from one sender that will be sent to the
list in one day.
No messages will be deleted or lost as a result-once a threshold is reached,
the messages are simply held until the following day. I hope, however, this
will encourage us all to keep our content relevant, avoid so many of these
"one-liners", and alert us to respond privately rather than to the list when
that is more appropriate. As list owner, I am able to instruct the list
server to allow the limit to be exceeded, and may do so on occasion. I do
not plan to reveal what the limitations are, as I intend to keep them
flexible and change them periodically, as I observe list traffic and see
what works best. I have already made some adjustments.
I am happy to see Hanashir such an active list, and do not wish to
discourage anyone from contributing. I have learned, however, that sometimes
we all needs a few limits to help us work together better.
2. This list has grown tremendously. In the early days, everyone knew
everyone else because so many on the list had participated in the Hava
Nashira workshops which were the genesis of this list. We have grown far
beyond that small and lucky community. Some on the list have expressed
interest in "getting to know" the other members. Others on the list have
privacy concerns. Some have suggested a web page that could contain a
listing of those subscribers who voluntarily submit information. While this
has some merit, maintaining and constantly updating such a page would be
cumbersome and time consuming.
Therefore, I am suggesting the following method of "getting to know" each
other. While I'll admit my email signature is a bit much...I think we could
address this issue by asking each subscriber who wishes to participate in
such an exchange to ALWAYS append to their submissions at the very least
their real name, email, and, if desired, the URL of a personal web page or
other location with pertinent information about you, your location and
position/title, etc. Those wishing to maintain privacy need not include this
information. If you don't have a personal web page, they are quite easy to
obtain these days through various "free" services. You can write me
privately for more information.
To summarize:
In the interest of encouraging better netiquette, I have set certain
limitations on list message volume. If your submission doesn't appear until
a following day, you may have exceeded the current limit, or list volume may
be heavy.
To encourage community, I am asking all subscribers to place basic
information about themselves in their postings.
