[HANASHIR:4751] Re: Shabbat Shirah

I'm gonna stick my neck out here-even though I am an instrumentalist.

It strikes me that this is not Shabbat "Instrumental Performance to Help
Enhance Singing" or "Shabbat Let's Make the Music Sound Real Pretty with
Nice Instrumentation" but rather simply "Shabbat Shirah." A Sabbath of song.
Song. Singing. Voices.

Yes, they used instruments in the Temple. Yes, Miriam played her timbrel.
But, on Shabbat Shirah, it seems to me, we should be showing off that most
marvelous of all the instruments-the human voice, lifted in song. The heck
with flutes and cellos, pianos, organs, guitars.

Just two shekalim from my devil's advocate self.

Adrian

I would add Craig's Barchu on Fri Night Live as another one for voice and
flute. If you can find a string instrument or clarinet/oboe, all the better.
